Het aantal tweetalige pagina's is in de laatste twee maanden weer flink uitgebreid. Een overzicht:

First updates of 2012

A happy new year to you all. No New Year's resolutions, just updates.
First, the old pages about Amsterdam have been given some major attention. Gone is the old concept in which all available churches in the city were listed in chronological order, spread out over three pages. Instead, there are now two pages about churches in the centre and three new pages about some of the the parts outside that part of the city: Amsterdam-West, Amsterdam-Oost (east) and Amsterdam-Zuid (south). In many cases, the churches on the first page are new to this website. Also, the pages about Breda have some "new" pictures. Today's last update is a new page about protestant architect A. Nauta.

Final update of 2011

Two more pages about municipalities in the Achterhoek region of the Gelderland province were added; a fairly big one about Berkelland and a very modest one about Bronckhorst. The first is accompanied by a page about the St. Caecilia in Rietmolen (picture), a church designed by architect C.A. Hardeman. More pages about specific churches in the Achterhoek are about to follow later, but first I'll aim my attention at some other part of the country.

And so another year comes to an end. A year in which all the province's sections were moved, the old weblog was left for a new one and a start was made to a more bilingual website.

This year's score in numbers: 5 new pages about architects, 17 about towns and municipalities and 31 about specific churches. A total of 53 new pages. Add to that the many older pages which were improved with new pictures or expanded with churches and/or locations, not to forget the 53 pages that now have Dutch text as well as English. I think I can be proud. See you next year!

Nieuwe lading vertaalde pagina's

New architects

Two more pages about architects. Both catholics and Traditionalists; C.A. Hardeman (1893-1961) and G.M. Leeuwenberg (1899-1967). Another thing these pages have in common is that there's so little biographical information on them; I simply could not find more about them.

Again: Gelderland updates. And some Limburg as well.

Still in the Gelderland section, the page about Oude Ijsselstreek municipality has been expanded. Completely new is the page about another municipality in the Achterhoek region, Oost Gelre. Supplementing this page are pages about two churches in Lichtenvoorde, the reformed Johanneskerk (picture) and the catholic St. Bonifatius.

Also, there are a few changes to the Limburg section. What used to be the page about the town of Sittard has been expanded to cover the municipality of Sittard-Geleen and now has a second page added with churches in Geleen and more. Far from complete, but much better than before. The page about Valkenburg aan de Geul has a few more pictures.

Noord-Brabant updates again

In the past four weeks there have been several updates to the Noord-Brabant section. First, the page about the basilica in Oudenbosch (picture) has finally been improved. This was the last page that still only had the ancient Mavica pictures combined with a minimal text. Related, there's a new page about Halderberge municipality. Bilingual, of course. New also are the pages about the O.L.Vrouw Onbevlekt Ontvangen in Oss and the St. Clemens in Nuenen.

Archimon in het Nederlands

Archimon begon in september 2000 als een volledig Engelstalige website, opgezet met als doel een internationaal publiek te informeren over historische architectuur in Nederland en aanverwante onderwerpen. Reden hiervoor was de oppervlakkige (en vaak onjuiste) informatie op de website van het Nederlands Bureau voor Toerisme en Congressen. Na enkele jaren besloot ik dat de Nederlandse architectuurgeschiedenis een te breed onderwerp was om goed uit te kunnen werken. Ik ben me toen volledig gaan richten op de kerkelijke architectuur, een thema dat toch al de hoofdmoot van de site vormde.

11 jaar na de start omvat Archimon (een samentrekking van architecture en monuments) bijna 900 pagina's over architecten, bouwstijlen, steden en gemeentes en, vooral, afzonderlijke kerken. Hoewel de keuze voor het Engels soms kritiek uitlokte heb ik reeds lang geleden besloten dat er geen weg terug is. Althans, een vervanging van het Engels door Nederlands zit er niet in. Dat wil ik ook niet. Echter, een puur Engelstalige website vind ik ook geen optie meer. Ik heb dan ook besloten dat Archimon geleidelijk, weliswaar gedeeltelijk, tweetalig wordt. Allereerst zullen de pagina's die een overzicht geven van kerken in steden en gemeentes worden voorzien van cursieve Nederlandse tekst, waarbij nieuwe en verbeterde pagina's voorrang krijgen.
Ik heb juist voor deze pagina's gekozen omdat dergelijke informatie in het Nederlands vrijwel niet voorhanden is, ook niet op websites als Reliwiki en Wikipedia. Dat zijn bij elkaar al meer dan 150 pagina's. Daarna komen de pagina's over architecten aan de beurt, en vervolgens de bouwstijlen. Of ook ooit de bijna 600 pagina's over afzonderlijke kerken worden vertaald is iets wat ik nu niet durf te beloven. Misschien een selectie. Maar dat is voor de lange termijn.

De volgende pagina's over plaatsen en gemeentes zijn voorzien van een vertaling in het Nederlands:

Nieuws over verdere vertaalde of nieuwe tweetalige pagina's zullen steeds worden aangekondigd in aparte Nederlandstalige weblogberichten. Verder zal het overzicht worden bijgehouden op deze pagina. Overige wijzigingen worden als vanouds bekendgemaakt in het Engels.

Various improved pages

In the past month various pages about towns and municipalities have been improved. These are the pages about Dordrecht and Leiden (both Zuid-Holland), Zaanstad (Noord-Holland) and Haaksbergen (Overijssel).
New with these pages, as well as several others, is that they are now bilingual, all having text in Dutch as well as English. In the future many more pages will be given the same treatment.

More Zuid-Holland updates

Some more updates in the Zuid-Holland section. New are pages about the reformed church of Rhoon (picture), the Albrandswaard municipality and two former villages which are now part of Rotterdam: Hillegersberg and Overschie. Improved are the pages about Midden-Delfland municipality, which is now as good as complete, the cities of Delft and Schiedam and the big reformed churches of Maassluis and Maasland.

Noord-Brabant updates

The Noord-Brabant section is updated with new versions of the pages about its capital 's-Hertogenbosch, the St. Jan cathedral in that city and the church St. Petrus' Stoel te Antiochië in Uden. All pages have new and better pictures.

Some Zuid-Holland updates

Some major changes have been made to the Zuid-Holland section. Completely new is a page about the city of Schiedam. The second page about the city of Den Haag has four new pictures, three of these showing churches not previously mentioned. The page about Scheveningen is much better now and had all of its pictures replaced, while four more churches were added. All the pages about the
seperate churches in Scheveningen, the Nieuwe Badkapel, the O.L. Vrouwe van Lourdes and the St.Antonius Abt, have new pictures too. The same goes for the page about the old reformed church in Voorburg (see picture).

Tilburg (NB) updates

From now on, updates will be posted on this new blog. Which, unsurprisingly, at this moment is still quite empty. The old blog will still be available here, in case you want to look at the older updates, but with most pages having moved in the past six months the links may not work.
Anyway, new is a page about what may well have been the first church in Expressionist style in The Netherlands, the O.L.V. Moeder van Goede Raad (see picture) in the city of Tilburg. The page about Tilburg itself has much improved and now shows 15 more buildings that were not mentioned before, while a few older pictures have been replaced by better ones.
