Various updates

A few more updates.

New in the Utrecht section is a page about the reformed Grote Kerk in Wijk bij Duurstede. There's also a new version of the page about the reformed church of Doorn.
In the Noord-Brabant section the page about Oss municipality is expanded with seven more buildings, representing the former County of Megen, a catholic enclave since the Reformation until ca. 1800.
In the Gelderland the page about the reformed church of Neerijnen is updated, once again, with recent pictures.
Concluding today's updates are some small changes to the pages about architects Th. Molkenboer, Th.

Back to Utrecht

It's back to the province of Utrecht with an updated page about the Cunerakerk in Rhenen, with many more new pictures. Completely new is a page about Wijk bij Duurstede municipality, small but quite complete I think.

First updates of the year

A happy new year to all visitors to my website. On a personal level 2021 could have been a lot better, but I did have some nice opportunities to take pictures and improve older pages and create some new ones. I made 19 trips (mostly short ones) that took me to 75 towns and villages where I took pictures of 148 churches, chapels and towers, 55 of which were new in my collection and have been or will be added to various municipality pages.

Speaking of updates, in 2021 there were the two big thematic updates concerning the architects W. te Riele and A. Tepe respectively, which together came with eleven new pages and a few radically improved ones. Three new architects were also added to that section as well as two more specific churches. That's a total of sixteen new pages. Older pages were improved in the Gelderland and Limburg section mostly.

Work on the page about another architect was only one of the many victims of this year's long interruption between February and October. I hope to tell you all about this J.W. Boerbooms and his churches soon. And perhaps I'll do another architect-related thematic update again.

Now let's hope, once again, for a better year. Here for a start are the first updates:

New the Gelderland section is a page about the municipality Maasdriel. In the Utrecht section the pages about the Vijfheerenlanden, Soest and Zeist municipalities are expanded, while the one about the St. Joseph church in Zeist (another W. te Riele update) has many new and improved pictures.

Alfred Tepe part two

An update to the last update: the pages about three of Alfred Tepe's most important churches have new pictures and improved text. These are the St.Michaël in Schalkwijk (picture), the Onze Lieve Vrouwe ten Hemelopneming in Houten and the St. Nicolaas in Ijsselstein, all in the province of Utrecht.

Alfred Tepe updates

An update at last. Due to personal issues I have little time or attention for structural updates and this will probably last for a while. Still, my activities have not come to a stand still and new pages have been in the works, only taking longer to complete. Today five pages of churches designed by Alfred Tepe were added. In the Gelderland section these are the St. Pancratius in 's-Heerenberg, the St. Martinus in Baak and the H. Georgius in Bredevoort, in the Noord-Holland section the St. Antonius in Kortenhoef (picture) and in the Utrecht section the St. Willibrordus of Everdingen. That section also now has a much improved page about the St. Michaël in Schalkwijk.

Big Wolter te Riele update

After the A.J.N. Boosten theme last December I decided to have a good look at the work of another architect, W.A.M. te Riele, the last neo-Gothic architect of the Netherlands and a very productive one too. In the past months several pages about some of his churches were improved already and mentioned as an update, like the

Now I'd like to present to you some more:
With the latter page I'm not quite satisfied, but it still is better than it was.

But more interesting are the following six new pages:

The last of 2020

This year's final update is a new page about the St. Gertrudis in Maasbracht, Limburg. A church which, the Romanesque tower aside, was designed by A.J.N. Boosten, a highly original architect who mostly worked in LimburgThis page is part of a theme. As on January the 2nd it will be 70 years since this architect's untimely death I thought it was a good occassion to give some of the pages about his churches an overhaul and pay some extra attention to some pages I updated recently

Many pictures were improved, many others were added while texts were rewritten. In the case of one page, about the St. Gemma in Sittard, I replaced all the pictures with even older ones which, using Photoshop, proved to be quite good.

The other improved pages are:

In the next update I will be looking back at 2020.

More Utrecht updates

Two more pages are enhanced with a combination of new, old and improved and very much Photoshopped pictures, both about churches in the city of Utrecht. One about the ancient Nicolaikerk, now finally showing its long inaccessible south side, and the much more recent St. Gerardus Majella

New Utrecht pages

Pages about both churches in the village of Benschop were added, the reformed church or Nicolaaskerk and the catholic St. Victor.

Utrecht updates

Some updates to older pages in the province of  Utrecht section. The page about the town of Oudewater has all new pictures plus one church added and is now about the eponymous municipality. The page about the reformed church or St. Michael (above)in Oudewater has several new pictures as well as some bigger and/or better versions of older pictures.

Much the same goes for the two big churches of Ijsselstein, the reformed church and the St. Nicolaas (right).

A few more Utrecht updates

New in the Utrecht section is a small but complete (ignoring several modern monstrosities) page with the churches in Montfoort municipality, plus seperate pages about the two main churches of Montfoort town, the gothic reformed St. Janskerk and the catholic St. Johannes de Doper, the latter one of W. te Riele's designs.

Some more Utrecht updates

The page about Woerden municipality has a few more objects added to it as well as a few pictures replaced. There are also a few new pictures, and of course better text, at the pages about the two main churches of Woerden town, the reformed Petruskerk and the Roman Catholic Bonaventura

The picture above of the latter church has a bit of an odd shape and that's because it's composed in Photoshop by combining several pictures. I've been doing that for years and it's something I keep in mind while taking pictures, and it's only the second time (see here for the first) I haven't managed to fill in the blank spaces and yet decided to use the picture anyway. You may find similarly odd shaped, and even odder, pictures in the near future.

Utrecht updates

Recent changes in the Utrecht section are a new page about Lopik municipality, an updated page about the reformed church in Lopik village and a new page about the catholic church St. Jacobus in Cabauw.

Zuid-Holland and Utrecht changes

Merging municipalities are not unusual anymore, there are a few every January, and they're always a pain. I know I haven't made the appropriate changes to all pages involved for last year, let alone this year. This January came with a rare, and hopefully never to be repeated case. Not only did three municipalities become one, two of those were also transferred to another province. The new Vijfheerenlanden municipality page replaces the former Vianen (Utrecht section) and Leerdam (Zuid-Holland section) pages. The good news is that it also comes with four new churches in villages in the former Zederik municipality (a page I never finished), such as the one in the picture. Having to also transfer the pages about the reformed churches of Leerbroek and Leerdam to the Utrecht section is a thing I did not enjoy at all. There may be some loose ends.

If only politicians were more aware of the consequences of their decisions....

Utrecht updates

A few updates in the Utrecht province section. First, a couple of better pictures on the page about De Bilt municipality of two churches in the village of that same name. Second, some important changes to page two of the Utrecht municipality, the one with the churches outside the old center. Four pictures replaced, two objects added and thus now more complete than ever. And third, new pictures and better text on the page about the St. Aloysius church, as seen in the picture above.

Another Utrecht update

Updated in the Utrecht section is the page about the Vianen municipality, which now contains three more churches in a couple more villages.

Utrecht update

Some improvements to the second of the pages about Utrecht city, the one with the churches outside the city center: two churches were added and one older picture was replaced.

The last two Utrecht updates

For this year, that is, because I do intend to visit that province again next year. Two new pages, one about Veenendaal showing nine of that town's many (and mainly protestant) churches. Second, there's a page about the slightly curious but very old Reformed church of Werkhoven (see picture).
